Daniel Suelo hasn't made a penny in 12 years. He hasn't spent a penny either. He is the subject of the book "The Man Who Quit Money," by Mark Sundeen. In 2000, Suelo had $30 to his name. He left the money in a phone booth and never looked back. Since then, Suelo has lived on public lands, foraging in dumpsters and canyons for food. He welcomes the generosity of others. He doesn't pay taxes. Doesn't accept any form of government welfare. And appears relatively happy. "He is not suggesting or encouraging that anyone else live like him," Sundeen told Brown.
Barack Obama campaigned that he would create 5 million “green collar” jobs. In January, President Obama announced $2.3 billion in tax credits for a clean energy economy will create 17,000 jobs. (Hmmmm... $135,300 per job) “Building a robust clean energy sector is how we will create the jobs of the future,” he said.
Make no mistake; this government-run plan will kill more jobs than it aims to create.
"There are no jobs!" That is what people told me outside a government "jobs center" in New York City. But, 4 researchers quickly found 40 job openings. So what goes on at these government "job centers?" I asked a college intern, to find out. Her conclusions:
--It's easier to get welfare than to work.
--The government would rather sign me up for welfare than help me find work.
--America has taxpayer-funded bureaucracies that encourage people to be dependent. They incentivize people to take "free stuff," not to take initiative.
One in six Americans is receiving help from the government, just as fiscal austerity threatens to reduce some of that aid.
Soaring unemployment during The Great Recession has driven tens of millions of people to the dole. Enrollment in Medicaid and food stamp programs are at record highs, while unemployment insurance rolls remain at elevated levels. Many people depend on more than one program.
The president of Belarus Alexander Lukashenko once again confirmed his reputation of the last dictator of Europe.
During his visit to the wood processing factory “Borisodrev” he came up with a new decree, according to which the employees of the factories undergoing modernization are not allowed to quit their jobs.
LAKE JACKSON, Texas -- Congressman Ron Paul today endorsed John Dennis in his Republican bid for United States Congress. Mr. Dennis, a successful entrepreneur and longtime liberty-minded GOP activist, is running to unseat Nancy Pelosi in California’s 8th district.
